FULL-TIME: West Brom 2-2 Sunderland
It ended all square at The Hawthorns, seem like a fair result for both teams but a better one for Sunderland who had a worst season last year but they survived relegation.
These are the kind of games West Brom have to win if they are to avoid another long season in and around the drop zone - and they looked like Alan Irvine was going to enjoy a successful debut in the dugout after Saido Berahino scored his second.
But Sunderland equaliser proved how far they have come in a year under the Manager Gus Poyet - and the kind of football he wants the Black Cats to play.
They need a different kind of forward from Fletcher/Wickham/Altidore but, on this showing, they will be fine this season. Sunderland were particularly good at setpieces.
With record signing Brown Ideye spending the game on the bench, the jury is out on Irvine's West Brom.
