Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford on a season-long loan.

Bamford, who signed a new three-year deal at Stamford Bridge prior to his departure, was voted the Championship's player of the year last term, after scoring 17 league goals during a similar spell at Middlesbrough.

The 21-year-old joined the Blues from Nottingham Forest three summers ago, but is yet to feature in a competitive fixture for Jose Mourinho's team.

Bamford, an England Under-21 international, has also excelled during loan spells at Derby County and MK Dons.

Palace are also closing in on the signing of Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Alex McCarthy for a fee in the region of £3.5m.

The 25-year-old is expected to challenge current No.1 Julian Speroni for a first team place this season, amid the imminent departure of Wayne Hennessey to West Bromwich Albion.

McCarthy, who only arrived at Loftus Road in last summer's transfer window from Championship side Reading, played just three times in the Premier League last term.

The former England Under-21 international does, however, have previous top flight experience following the Royals' brief stay there in 2012/13.
